Check Two-Wheeler Insurance Policy’s Expiry Date Online – Follow These Simple Steps

Among the different vehicles that are available for private use, two-wheelers are considered to be the most convenient. The affordability of a two-wheeler along with its manoeuvrability is what makes it easy to use and a common preference among people. However, two-wheelers are also susceptible to accidents and other adverse events such as theft. Thus, it is essential to ensure the safety of your two-wheeler by choosing a comprehensive two wheeler insurance.

Two-wheeler insurance is not just a regulatory requirement by the Motor Vehicles Act, but also essential coverage for safeguarding your vehicle financially. The Motor Vehicles Act requires policyholders to have at least third-party bike insurance. However, it has limited coverage. That’s why comprehensive insurance coverage must be sought that safeguards the policyholder’s financial interest along with protection for legal liabilities due to a third person.

Buying a two-wheeler policy is essential but ensuring timely bike insurance renewal is also critical. Renewing the policy on time ensures your bike insurance coverage remains active without any breaks. But how does one know when their policy expires? For that, you need to check your policy’s expiry date. You can do so by checking the policy documents in your possession. However, if for some reason, you cannot check your policy documents for expiry date, you can do so online. *

This article mentions three ways to check your policy’s expiry date online.

  • Using your insurance company’s website

The simplest way to know your policy’s expiry date is to visit the official website of the insurance company. If you have purchased the policy online, it is even simpler as you might be familiar with the website interface, and you might have a login on the portal. Here’s how to check the policy status:

  • Visit the insurance company’s official website.
  • Locate the bike insurance page.
  • Mention the registration number of your vehicle.
  • If any policy is active, the insurance company will present the details thereof. If not, you get an option to renew the policy.

* Standard T&C Apply

  • Through the official website of VAHAN

Your bike insurance policy’s expiry date can also be looked up through VAHAN, the official website of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. It is a national registry that has records of all vehicles registered in the country. Along with registration details, details about its insurance cover are also available. Here are the steps to check the validity of your insurance policy on the VAHAN portal.

  • Visit the official website of VAHAN.
  • Login to the portal if you have an account or create one.
  • Once you have entered the portal, look for the option labelled ‘Know Your Vehicle Details’
  • Enter the registration number of your bike.
  • Important information about your bike is displayed on the screen once you submit the vehicle’s registration details.

* Standard T&C Apply

On the VAHAN portal, you can only check the validity of the policy and not make the bike insurance renewal.

  • Through the official website of the Insurance Information Bureau

The Insurance Information Bureau or IIB is a comprehensive database for insurance in India and is operated by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI). This is how you can know your policy’s status on the IIB portal:

  • Visit IIB’s official website (https://iib.gov.in).
  • Look for the option with the title ‘V Seva’.
  • You need to fill out the Accident Vehicle Information Retrieval form
  • The IIB database displays your bike insurance policy’s details.

* Standard T&C Apply

When renewing your policy, make sure to not place entire emphasis on the bike insurance price, but also on factors like policy coverage and the features that are offered.

Insurance is the subject matter of solicitation. For more details on benefits, exclusions, limitations, terms, and conditions, please read the sales brochure/policy wording carefully before concluding a sale.
